War resister facing deportation

You likely do not know the young man mentioned below, but neither do I. I hope you will see him as a newcomer to our country who could use our help.

A valuable member of our community is about to be deported to the US and into the hands of a military prison. His name is Cliff Cornell and has been working at the Village Food Market on Gabriola for almost 3 years. He was learning to be a first aid person in the US army when he was told he must go to Iraq. His adopted mom said "no Cliff, we are taking you to Canada". She borrowed a car and drove Cliff from Alabama to Toronto and he eventually made his way to Gabriola. Cliff is a quiet, gentle guy, has never missed a day at work and is helpful to customers and well liked by management and his co-workers.
Please take a moment to drop a line to the Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, Jason Kenney and ask him to intervene NOW. Time is of the essence as the deportation is days away.

A member of my community of Gabriola Island, Cliff Cornell, faces imminent deportation. Mr. Cornell is in Canada because of his opposition to the Iraq War. I believe that the Canadian tradition of giving refuge to war resisters is an honorable one and should be maintained. Indeed, some of the most respected and productive members of my community first came here from the US in the 1960s, because they would not participate in the Vietnam War.
I urge you to intervene to prevent an injustice that would be shameful to Canada.
