So what I'm wondering is how do people feel about Harper abandoning a Canadian citizen in Gitmo? Harper has made it clear that he thinks it's alright for children to -- essentially -- be tortured so long as it's politically expedient for him.

Any thoughts from this peanut gallery?

What else should one expect from the Governor of the American territory of Canada? It's surprising that the US maintains an ambassador here as well, but I suppose that's just in case we get a proper PM someday. Then they might need someone here to represent their interests.

It seems self-evident that a 15-year old should not have been locked up in an adult detention facility, especially one where torture has been normalized. The interrogation and prosecution of Khadr would not meet the standards of an old Soviet show trial; that a boy has been subjected to this treatment, and our country has stood by, is abysmal.

Next week a book called "The Dark Side" will be released, and report that the International Committee of the Red Cross told the CIA last year that US interrogation methods were "categorically torture" and exposed US government officials to future prosecution for war crimes. I look forward to those prosecutions, and to our own country's self-examination as we realize that we have been complicit in a war that was unjustified, and immoral in its conduct.
